Walsall Health CC 228-5 in 40 overs
|Match: Old Doms lost by 86 runs|
Another Sunday and another Doms scratch team, sadly still a number of regular players are absent for one reason or another but the Doms eventually fielded 11 players albeit 2 didn't arrive until the 30th over..
The Doms welcomed Walsall Health to the Hedges ground for the first time. A reluctant Last took on the skippers role and tossed the coin correctly and won the toss. Obviously there is a certain amount of skill in coin tossing... The 9 Doms would bowl first to ensure the game went past the Tea break..
Gorton and Chuck opened for the visitors against a Doms new opening bowling attack of Colin Hunt and Mo Bhanji. They started well, Bhanji opening with two maidens and Hunt conceding just 6 off his first two. Bhanji struck in his 3rd and 4th overs removing Gorton and Fitzpatrick for 6 runs apiece, the later a piece of good field placing having Morris at leg sip who took a sharp catch.
Bhanji bowled out for an excellent 23-2, the batsmen never really got to grips with the turn he was achieving. Colin Hunt finished with a unrewarded 43-0 off his 8 overs.
At Drinks the visitors were 101-2.
Razza, who had not bowled for 10 years and Amir were keeping a check on things, both bowled well considering their lack of bowling over the years, Amir picked up couple of wickets in his 37-2 spell. Manoj and Last finished off the last 8 overs and the visitors finished on 228-5 with opener Chuck undefeated on 116, a great innings.
Tea was taken. Not a bad tea but sadly the cakes were not up to the @AbiMaud standard.
So 229 to win Davidge and Hickin got the Doms chase off to a steady start, well a very steady start that lasted for 10 overs before speed merchant Hickin stalled on the start line and was well short to a direct hit and he was walking back run out for 10 and the Doms on 25-1 off ten overs.
Mo Bhanji continued at the same pace as Hickin and Davidge had established and the Doms crawled to drinks with Mo being caught for 15, so after 20 over the Doms were well behind the run rate at 60-2.
Things didn't get much better, only a quick dash with the bat by Manoj to accrue a 20 ball 32 before he was bowled. Doms 101-5 off 30 still 129 needed off just the 10 overs.
The tail fell away in the chase as the Doms were bowled out for 141 with only 3 balls left of the innings. Davidge providing the glue to the innings with a studious 55.
Despite the trials and tribulations of the Doms inability to get 11 players out both teams provided a good game of cricket played in a positive friendly manner. It was a nice touch that the Walsall boys formed a 'guard of honour' to welcome Last to the crease for his 500th Doms game. At least some thought it was a achievement worth celebrating.
Man of the Match: Mo Bhanji for his great bowling stint and a useful 15 runs.
Drops: 2, Hunt and Davidge one each
