Peopleton CC 170-3 in 20 overs
|Match: Old Doms lost by 28 runs|
Well on a breezy night down at the Hedges ground the Doms took on Peopleton CC, a team from somewhere in the wilds of Worcestershire. The Doms managed to find 12 players which was a plus point, it was good to see the young Boars players keen to play. The Doms have been lucky to see some youngsters play for the side as young guns who have then gone through to playing for the Boars 1st XI. Lets hope these lads get some useful experience with the Doms and make the same progress. Even Banners looks a better player now....
Oh also on a historical note Dave Wright turned up in whites that still fit him ! It was a bit ironic that he turns up to play after all this time and its the second longest day of the year! For those that don't know Dave he only scores runs when batting in the dark.
Anyway, on to the match. Skipper Martin was a bit reluctant to put his 100% win record on the line but old stagers Last and Hodgy managed to persuade him. With a skip in his step he only went out and won the toss, sadly that's all he won all evening. He did give a moral boosting pre match team talk which really put a spring in the lads steps as they walked out onto the square.
McNeice and Blackmore opened and probably wished they hadn't as the visitors openers of Blather and Bird took the bowling apart for the first 10 overs. 101-0 came up in the 10th over and then luckily for the Doms they decided to retire hoping the other batsmen would keep up the onslaught. But the Doms managed to get a grip on the game which at one point looked like a chase of over 200 was on the cards.
Despite some dropped catches the run rate dropped and three wickets were taken before the visitors 20 overs concluded on 170-3 with some fine death bowling from McNeice and Manoj.
So 171 to win and big hitters Hodgy and Martin strode out and the run chase was on! They made a great start hitting 31 off the first 3 overs, but then the innings stuttered as wickets fell cheaply, Hodgy, for a good 34 was the only batsman to make double fingers as the Doms slumped to 64-6 in 11th over.
But Downing and McNeice tore into the bowling with some big hitting from McNeice and proper cricket shots from Downing. Sadly keeping up with the run rate and not getting out was always going to be risky, McNeice hit the longest 6 of the night but was then softly caught out the next ball for a breezy 30.
Downing tried as he might could not get the Doms over the line and the team ended up 28 short with Downing 36no. The Doms 143-8 in 20.
A good match played in the spirit it should be played. You cant win the all Skipper Martin...
Player of the Match: Tom Downing for a nice bit of batting.
Drops: 4. Hodgy, McNeice, Manoj and Solail one each.
