Match: Old Doms Lost by 67 runs | |||||||||||||||||
Another 20/twenty slog, this nights game was down in the leafy suburb of Harbourne. The Sportsman's ground has improved over the years, better changing rooms and the wicket looked the best the Roving Reporter has seen it. Its only failings is the postage size space for a match of cricket, even the weakest throwing fielders on the Doms side can get the ball to the keepers gloves from the off and onside boundaries.
With many of the Doms players injured or away the Doms welcomed Mark Burrell and Mo Bunji into the eleven and drafted a couple of the 'senior' Tourist in even though they were looking to get a rest. The toss was won by the hosts who elected to bat first. Mangat and Ali got them off to a good start and they had raced along to 83 in the 8th over before Last trapped Mangat for 31. Vijay joined Ali who was now in full flow and reached a well constructed 106 off just 61 balls before the late arriving McNeice bowled him, his innings included 5 6's and 13 4's which was about par for the size of the boundaries.
McNeice went on the trap Walder for a first ball duck as the Sportsman's innings came to an end on 193-3. Things may well have been better for the Doms had McNeice not been stuck in traffic and was able to bowl his full overs.
Given the Doms batting line up chasing 193 was always going to be a challenge, particularly against the hosts bowling attack and with the early evening gloom descending. Perry batted well for 26, given he's hardly batted all season though injury he looked good.
It was rather a procession of batsmen coming and going in the gloom with Bunji looking a useful batsman and he Last saw the final over and the Doms innings ended on 126-9 some 67 runs short.
The Doms now move on to play Village CC on Sunday.
