|Match: Old Doms won by 8wks|
The penultimate 20Twenty match was upon us on a clear bright early August evening down at Bromsgrove. The wicket looked a treat, dry and oozing runs. It was a first visit by Highwood Park and they looked up for a 20/20 head to head. Thankfully they turned up on time and the match would start in full sunlight.
The toss was won by the Doms who invited Highwood to bat first. Openers Pitt and Poole were facing Dan Brookes who is currently on top form with the ball however his first over was wayward down the leg side giving stand in keeper Smaylen no chance to stop the first two balls from Brookes speeding off to the boundary for wides.
However he got his line right and in his second over cleaned up Poole's stumps and the opener was trudging off without scoring. 1-18 in the third over. Banners got into the act trapping Perks playing French cricket for 4 with the score on 33 in the 6th over.
Pitt found support in Stamps and saw out Brookes 1-17 and Banners 1-30. The change bowlers of Ladha and Moore plugged away and Moore saw Pitt drive straight into Banners safe hands and the third wicket had gone down in the 10th over with the score on 70. The Doms shading the first half of the visitors innings.
Ladha was next to strike when Stamps drove to Last standing at short mid on who held onto a tumbling catch, Stamps out for 24 and his team 4-98 in 14th over.
Clarke and Last came on to bowl the remaining 4 death overs, although Clarke got some tap he picked up two wickets as the visitors looked to push the score on.. The Highwood boy innings closed on 6-154 about 30/40 runs short.
So with the visitors setting a getable 154 Pedders and Martin Brookes settled in and soon had the scoreboard moving at a platform building pace. After the first 5 overs from Stamps and Holiday the Doms were 0-38.
The Doms openers then opened up and the score raced along without any scary moments. The first wicket to go was Brookes, run out for 28 in the 10th over with the score on 104.
With two big hitters now at the crease only 5 more overs were needed to chase down the 50 odd runs needed to win. The visitors did mange one more success in removing Pedders for 71 when he miscued a lofted drive.
Banners and Hodgy saw the Doms home with around 5 overs left and an 8wk win. A really good competitive game of cricket played out in good spirit by both sets of players. The teams retired to the club house to reflect and drink a few pints.
Man of the Match: Pedders for a classy 71.
Drops: Last, Banners, Clarke, Brookes M one each...
