TPR Titans CC 138-5 in 20 overs
|Match: Old Doms won by 40 runs|
Lets start with the negatives, lack of effort saw Hodgy end up 8 short of a belting 100, Chicken 6 short of a well constructed 50 and Last's inability to get one more wicket for a 'fifer'. More nets and application are needed lads!
Well it was good to get out on the wicket again, this time a 20/20 slog against the Titans. The Doms had a good 11 with a new face, another Perry. Chicken tosses badly and looses the toss and the Doms would bat. After the recent run chasing efforts where the Doms have not chased well it was a change to try and set a defendable total.
Its was a pleasant late May evening although some needed the help of a jumper. More notably Dolly in his first appearance as a dad decided to 'wrap up warm'. Good parenting from Dolly.
So the Hickin brothers open and Dolly was soon walking back disappointed at offering a simple catch and the Doms were 1-13 off 2. Hodgy, who's had a stuttering season so far with the bat was due a good innings, he started circumspectly taking 5 balls to hit his first boundary. Then in the flash of an eye lid Hodgy and Chickin pushed the score on racing to 109 off just 13 overs before Chicken looking a tad tired played around a ball and was bowled for 44. A disappointment, just 6 runs away from a 50. The Doms 2-109.
Stevie Martin joined Hodgy and knocked the ball around as Hodgy plundered the visitors bowling. But with the score on 160 in the 18th over Hodgy played a weak shot to long off and was caught for 94 off 46 balls. Such a disappointing end, just 6 runs adrift of one of the fastest 100's for the Doms.
17 runs were added in the remaining 2 overs and the Doms 20 over innings ended on 5-178.
So a big ask for the Titans, the wicket was playing true and the outfield flat and fast so 179 was a possibility. Kman and Hazo opened up the bowling and the former couldn't find his length or line consistently enough and was taken off after two overs costing 20 runs. Hazo struck in his final over as Hill gave Hodgy a simple catch at point. Titans 1-49 off 8 overs. Hazo 1-28.
Hodgy bowled well downhill but was unable to remove a batsman as they played and missed as often as Hodgy missed the stumps. Hodgys good spell ended unrewarded 0-8. Yassers first Doms bowling spell also went unrewarded 0-31 off three.
At the end of the 14th over the visitors were still in with a chance of overtaking the Doms 178. Last was disappointed with Pedro's lack of leaping, palming leaping and catching antics on the boundary as he let the ball go for a maximum. However in the 15th over Last did what Hodgy was unable to do and hit the wickets with the ball and opener McClaugh was bowled charging for a very useful 59. 2-99.
13 runs were added before Last bowled Max for 22 and the visitors runs chase was now stalling at 3-112 in 17th over. With the run rate rising fast the batsmen taking chances the Chicken/Last combo struck again as the batsman charged and Last went wide for Chicken to take an easy stumping.
The final wicket was taken as Marcus edged Last's final ball of his spell to first slip where Perry took a blinding one handed catch (apologies for the wild exaggeration)
The visitors innings ended on 138-5 still 40 runs short of victory. A well fought game where the Doms always were in charge and never really looked like conceding the 179 runs needed by the Titans for a win.
A good all around Doms performance with bat, ball and fielding.
Man of the Match - Hodgy for a great quick fire 94.
Dropped catches: Lada -1 Running total 22
