Match: Old Doms Old Doms won by 54 runs | |||||||||||||||||
It was a dark damp evening as the 9 Old Doms rolled into Ash Lane to play Selly Oak CC. Whilst a number of the Doms were sat at home watching old films, girls football or holding hands with the 'other half' on the sofa the formidable 9 were getting a tad wet.
So away to Selly Oak, always a nice playing strip with wide expansive green areas to chase the ball around and a good bunch of lads to have a drink in the bar after the exertions. Chickin calls correctly and decides the Doms would bat in the light that was still available. Well, Chickin had a plan. Pedro promoted up the order to open as 'pinch hitter'. His nose bleed for being so high up the order soon stopped as Chickin took on the the 'pinch hitter' role by clouting the first 5 balls for 13 leaving only one ball for tail ender Pedro to smack for a very long 6. 19 off the first over, the plan was working.
Sadly 3 balls into the second over and Chickin was walking back for 13. The Doms 1-19 off 9 balls. Then the partnership of the game as Martin Brookes and Pedro took the bowling apart with big shots and loads of boundaries. They took the score onto 103 when Brookes was caught for a 32 ball 40 and 10 runs later Pedro's knock ended when he was adjudged LBW to Keresh the pick of the Oak bowlers. Pedro's 37 came off 25 balls. The Doms 3-114 off 13.
Preece and Martin kept the momentum going followed by Manoj. 16 overs gone and the Doms were 6-144. Adie and Last then played a few shots and took the score onto 172 off the allotted 20 overs.
It was gloomy and a curtain of light drizzle fell as the 9 Doms spread out across the acres of outfield to defend 172. Well what a cracking first 6 overs bowled by Dan Brookes and Last. Brookes booming in with pace had Robinson well caught by Adie in fly slip and removing Small with one that cut back in and played on. Last kept the screw on the runs supported by tight fielding. When they were rested the pair had done the damage as Oak were 2-9 off 6 overs.
Manoj and and Martin Brookes then kept the batsmen in check, Manoj bowling the dangerous Nick for 26 and Brookes taking a sharp return catch. Martin bowling on his favorite ground forced the batsmen into playing rash shots and 'bought' 3 wickets for 41 off his 4 overs and the Doms were home but not very dry.
A top performance for the 9 Doms in all areas, batting was positive, bowling spot on and the fielding exceptional with some good catches taken and not a ball dropped. A great 54 run win. Chickin had a plan and it worked.
Man of the Match - Pedro for a quick 37 and 2 wickets
Dropped catches: No Drops Running total 39
