Match: Old Doms lost by 7wks | |||||||||||||||||
Well the previous days rain had cleared up and the Doms team rolled up at Ash Lane to take on Five Ways. The wicket looked a tad green and still holding moisture from the early downpour. Chickin won the toss and the Doms batted first with Dolly and Pedders opening against some useful bowling. Pedders was first to go, the ball held up and he lobbed an easy catch to mid off. Dolly and Smaylen went cheaply and the Doms were in trouble at 3-29 off 5.
The partnership of the match saw Banners and Stato, yes stato was playing in his new cable knit sweater, build some runs. They dug in for a while before moving the score along. Banners playing some particularly good drives and pulls. He was eventually out playing one of those shots. Big heave, tongue out, eyes closed and was bowled for a very good 42. 4-91 off 17.
Martin came in and soon went after a couple of lusty blows for 11 as skipper Chickin then sent big hitter Ladha in for the last 17 balls. Sadly he was out off the last ball for a 9 ball 1. The Doms innings petered out on 130 about 30 runs short.
A quick turnaround and the top strike bowlers of Ladha and Adie were pounding in. Somehow Firth missed read the pace of Lada's 4th ball and the ball beat the bat and fell onto the stumps. The home side off to a bad start at 1-4 off the first over. The home side then settled in and started knocking the ball around.
Martin made the breakthrough with Chickin taking a sharp leg side catch to dismiss Holmes for 19. The home side were now on 40-2 off 7 overs. Banners came on and bowled well with no reward. Last came on and removed the opener Wingfield for 26 with another sharp piece of keeping by Chickin.
That was all the wickets that were taken and skipper Chick brought on his opening bowlers to slow down the run rate only to see the two overs go for 32 and Five Ways were home at a canter.
A disappointing result for the ten Doms men. Flexibility is the key to 20/20, getting the best batters and bowlers on at the right time...
Man of the Match - Banners for useful 42 and some tight bowling
Dropped catches: 3 - Last 1- Dolly -1 Martin -1 Running total 51
