Beaumont CC 138-8 in 39.1overs
|Match: Old Doms lost by 2 wks|
Well the Doms nearly pulled off a great win, after only setting a modest 138 for the Beaumont boys to chase it went down to the wire with the visitors getting home with only 2 wks intact and 5 balls of the game left. Top effort.
Beaumont were the visitors on a sunny afternoon. The wicket looked a tad scruffy and proved to be a difficult track to bat on. The Doms would bat first and 150 looked to be a good score. Chickin set the tone for the afternoon after shouldering arms to a lifting ball and was tamely caught off the fifth ball of the first over. Davidge and Perry (yes Tank Perry who had been given permission to play this afternoon) dug in and put on a good stand with Perry taking on the bowlers with some cracking shots.
Sadly he was done by the pitch and was bowled for a good comeback 28. The Doms were now 2-48 off 12. This turned into 4-52 as Davidge 16 and Smaylen 1 made the long walk back.
By drinks the Doms were really struggling as Srini and Dolly were both out cheaply. At drinks it was 6-72.
Things didn't get any better in the second half as wickets went down at regular intervals. Stato batted through and looked the only batsman to look comfortable making 41 not out as the Doms innings concluded on 137 all out in 35th over.
A disappointing performance with the bat but we would only know how good or bad 137 was when Beaumont had batted.
Tea was taken. It was an ok tea scoring 7.5 on the Tea Index scale.
So could the Doms defend 137? well they nearly did. Srini and Hawker opened and Jandu and Hall could hardly put a bat on the ball. Jandu managed to score 8 before he was first out, Danny Brookes talking a good catch. 1-9 off 3.
Krishna joined Hall and the ball beat the bat so many times the batsmen didn't require a bat for much of the time. It took 20 balls for the first run to be taken off Hawker. Srini bowling through his 8 for 1-23. Pedro replaced the unrewarded Hawker 0-3 off 6 overs. Pedro was next to strike in the 18th over with Krishna giving a sharp catch to Chickin making a 47 ball 16. Hall followed quickly after as Pedro got his second wicket bowling Hall for a 59 ball 16.
At drinks the visitors had limped onto 3-52. The Doms were back in the game, although the Beaumont batting line up was long it was not going to be easy to get the 86 runs require to win.
Danny Brookes bowled well keeping up the pressure. By now any ball within a foot of the popping crease was deemed a wide which was disappointing. Brookes took the wickets of Jandu, a triple juggling catch by Smaylen, a magic moment and bowling the dangerous Johnson. At the 30 over mark the visitors were edging nearer the 138 needed at 5-106. 32 needed off ten overs and 5 wks in hand.
Hawker finished off his 2 overs ending with a 8-5-4-0. 4 runs off 48 balls, top pace bowling.
So it was left to Last and Tank to bowl the final overs. Last's first over produced a maiden and in his second trapped Umair in front. 6-110 off 32. 28 off 8, the visitors were getting nervous.
In Last's third the big hitting Hodson walks down the track only for the ball to beat the bat and was comfortably stumped by Chickin. 7-117 off 34. 6 overs to get 21. A couple of edgy 4's released the tension but in Tanks 3rd over he bowls Hall for 16. The scores were level 137, each team, 6 balls left and Last to bowl it. Sadly Rands who had kept the visitors innings alive with a 54 ball 24 prodded the first ball and set off just getting home.
A great game for both teams with the visitors just edging home by 2 wickets and 5 balls to spare.
Man of the Match - Stato for his 41 not out, the only class batsmen on show from both teams
Dropped catches: 4- Chickin ,Davidge, Perry and Stato - one each Running total 55
