Avoncroft CC 64/ao in 19.3 overs
|Match: Old Doms won by 8wks|
A sunny but chilly evening welcomed the players to the first 20/20 slogout of the 2015 season. Avoncroft, a local team were the visitors. The teams had never met before so both teams were heading into the unknown. For some reason the Doms had more than 11 players available, somehow Hazo seems to have missed out on the cut!
Chicken looses the toss again but bowling was likely to have been his first choise in any case. The visitors eleven was a mixture of youth and experience and it was good to see young Kehoe opening with old timer Pitt. Kman opened down hill, his first run out and it looks like he's shortened his run up to about 20 paces. He bowled well in his first spell of three overs picking up Kehoe and Edmunds whilst at the other end Banners whirled and twirled but didn't have any luck with a couple of catches put down off his 24 balls. His spell a controlling 0-11.
The Avoncroft lads found it hard to get the ball away facing some early season accuracy from the Doms. Stevie Martin bowled a good spell in his new 'versatile role' of 'all rounder'. Wickets kept tumbling and not many runs were being score. Last continued to strangle the batsmen's attempts to post a defendable total. He had the dangerous looking opener Pitt well stumped by Chicken for 28 in his final over shortly by the same result as he beat the oncoming batsman for Chickens 4th stumping of the night. Last spell 3-12.
Hodgy and Brookes came on to clean up the tail enders with 2 wickets apiece, high Bowling Index numbers collected.
The visitors innings ended with 3 balls spare on 64 all out. The Doms performed a good 20 overs in the field, some good dashing about by Pickles in the deep and sharp work by Chicken behind the stumps. I'm sure a few of the Doms will have some sore knees this morning the number of times the ball was stopped with them!
So a quick turn around and the Doms openers were at the crease. Walshe and Dolly taking the first 5 overs to eke out a modest 16 runs. Dolly then got his range and started to push on with some elegant shots to the boundary. He was first to depart after scoring 22 shortly followed by Pickles for 5. Doms 2-47.
It just left new recruit Preece and Philo to take the Doms past the 65 needed with 5 overs spare. Philo 24 not out and Preece not out 4.
Handshakes all round and off to the bar for a drink and chat about cricket. A good match against a friendly bunch of lads, we look forward to meeting them later in the season.
