|Match: Old Doms won by 156 runs|
Another Sunday and hey another win for the Doms ! This time by a big 156 run margin. Today's opponents were John Grangers Beaumont boys, always a good game and although the Doms won by a canter it was played out with good competitiveness and a bit of humour, just like cricket should be.
The Doms a player short were asked to bat and give the visitors a target to chase. The Hickin boys in at numbers one and two again were again messing things up early. On Thursday Chickin was run out in the first over, today it was Dollys turn to head back to the pavilion without facing a ball as somehow Chickin called and set off. Dolly, slow to respond with 'NO' was run out halfway up the track. Doms 0-1. Rubbish calling.
Then a good partnership with Hodgy and Chick going at about 6 an over looked in no trouble until Hodgy got into the 'I'm going to call for a suicidal run' and duly ran Chickin out with yards to spare.. 50-2 off 9. Funny old game cricket.
The the partnership of the game. Hodgy joined by Martin Brookes pushed on with Brooksie out scoring Hodgy in a 104 run 3rd wicket partnership in 16 overs. Both getting 50's but by the 27th over both were out Brookes for 58 and Hodgy for 55. The Doms were well placed at 162-4 off 27.
Srini came in and hit the ball hard before getting out for a 24 ball 37. As the overs ticked away the remaining batsmen hit out trying to maximise the score. The innings ended with the score on 230-9 with Danny Brookes getting a very well accumulated not out 20.
Tea was taken with the clouds gathering. A good effort was made with the tea, Mrs Srini excelled with some of her very tasty samosa's and both Hickin boys doing some inventive stuff with the sarnies. Tea Index score of 8.5.
So with black clouds looming and the Doms were concerned about the weather intervening Srini and Pedro started well, Pedro only bowling 4 wides in his first over. The wickets started to fall early in the visitors innings as Srini was making the ball difficult to hit as the overcast clouds aided his swing. Danny B taking a good catch and bails flying around as the batsmen struggled. Pedro took a blinding catch off his own bowling, no pulling out for him.
Srini took a rest after 6 overs 3-14 and Pedro 1-16 off 6, his figures spoilt by 7 wides ! Hodgy ambled downhill taking two wickets and C Hunt, Pearson and Danny Brookes picking up a wicket each to finish off the Beaumont lads all out for 74.
The fielding was much better, Martin Brookes and Pedros catches were exceptional. The Doms moved off to the bar with a spring in their steps with an 156 run victory in the score book.
Man of the Match - Srini, great all round performance 37 runs and 3-14 plus the samosa's .
Dropped catches: 2. Colin Hunt - 2 (one pull out) Running total 39
