|Match: Old Doms lost by 41 runs|
The sun was shinning, the Doms had 11+ players available and we had managed to get the game moved from Barnt Green so we wouldn't have to play the silly cricket format that the Doms grew out of some 25 years ago. No 25 and out and everyone gets to bowl, the Whitehill boys would have to play a proper 20/20 slog.
Err... our run of big wins came to a shuddering halt in an attempt to 'be nice ' to each other. Well the toss was won by Pedro and he decided to put the visitors in on a great batting track. It looked that any score less than 150 would be hard to defend.
Banaham and young Brookes opened against two batsmen that were chuffed to monkeys that they wouldn't have to 'retire' after scoring 25 runs. Both bowled well but the field constantly leaked run, only 6 dot balls out of the first 30 saw the visitors race to 36-0 running ones and twos with ease. With Josh Searle and Dolly now on would the Doms cut out the easy ones and twos...nope.
The first visitors wicket fell on 60 in 7th over when a flighted ball from Dolly beat the bemused batsman and DC made a sharp stumping. Great cricket. 1-64 off 8.
Clive Searle came on at the wrong time just when the batsmen were teeing off after laying down a solid foundation. 18 off the over saw Clive thankfully pass the ball on.
Martin Brookes and Pedro got 5 wks between them but at a cost of 85 runs in 8 overs. Good catches from Brookes and Dolly but the team walked off shell shocked as they now faced a target of 184 to win.
The batting line up could on paper challenge the 184 needed. DC and Magnum got the innings off to a steady start with the latter using his regular approach to some affect. Sadly Magnum was bowled with his score on 19 and the Doms were 1-37 off six overs only 12 below were the visitors were.
From over one the visitors put their stall out...6 or 7 on the boundaries and no matter what DC did he seemed to find a boundary fielder. Martin Brookes came and went, bowled by the best ball of the night. At the half way point the Doms were on 2-70 only trailing the visitors 1-77. That was it really, the middle order batsmen couldn't get any runs and dot balls were a plenty for the visitors.
DC could only look on as the batsmen came and went after using up precious balls. A glimmer of hope arrived as Josh Searle joined DC but the Doms were so far behind the run rate and the boundaries well patrolled neither batsmen were able to catch up with the rate. Sadly big hitters Pedro and Banham who could have got the Doms over winning line watched from the pavilion unused for the good of the game.
DC finished 55 not out and Josh a 20 ball 31. The Doms ended 41 runs short against a poor bowling side and a non to athletic fielding side. The visitors beat the Doms at our own game, a frustrating game to watch.
