Sportsman CC 190-9 in 40 overs
|Match: Old Doms won by 9 wks|
Well with injuries mounting up and and players calling it a day the Doms turned out with 11 players. First run outs of the season for the Anstey pair which was good to see, perhaps playing for the Doms was a better option than taking Julie to see some over the hill 'pop' star...
Well the sun was shining and the visitors were our old chums the Sportsman, many changes in personnel since the 'early days' but non the less a great bunch of lads just wanting a good game of cricket. The visitors won the toss and oddly decided to bat on a wicket that would only get flatter as the day went on.
Srini and Colin Hunt opened and Srini was on the button straight away causing the batsmen all sorts of problems with the swing and pace. With only 15 on the board Hodgy took a good catch off Srini and Keogh was walking back for 5. Hunt less accurate, although was fortunate to get the wicket of DTG who rocked back to a short ball and clipped his bails off with his flaying bat for 10. Sportsman 2-23 off 6.
Perry replace Hunt and got clonked for a big six by Dani in his first over. Srini still bowling with some fire down hill trapped Dani two balls later and the third wicket was down, 3-57 off 8. Perry bowling with some control got his first wicket when Srini was in on the act again taking a good catch to dismiss Yaneet for 19.
Martin Brookes replaced Srini downhill and bowled four tight overs before he scratched his hand and need to go for stiches! Nevertheless Danny Brookes took over and bowled a great 8 over spell taking 2-33. Perrys spell as usual was tight 2-35 before Hodgy came on and fed the Sportsman some easy runs. A good knock by Hill - 35 and 15 from Osborne took the score onto 190-9 off the 40 overs bowled. Would it be enough? only time would tell.
Tea was taken, and in the absence of the injured Last Brookes was given the responsibility for the premier tea item...the cheese sarnies. Well he did ok, he did wraps, assume it was cheddar with some sweet pickle. Sadly the wraps were not buttered and the presentation was a tad stark..no strawberry/grape garnish...not even a fckin lettuce leaf. But hey he tried.
So 191 to win. Davidge and the out of form Perry were asked to get the Doms off to a steady start. Well it started steadily, not being troubled the first 3 overs brought 19 runs with the out of form Perry cracking 3 consecutive 4s off Ollie.
Perry was on fire whilst Davidge farmed the strike to him whenever he could. The score raced quickly onto 60 off just ten overs. The Sportsman bowlers didn't seem to catch on that they were bowling the wrong length on a good batting track.
Perry's 50 came and went and soon the Doms were on 100 for no wicket in the 14th over. Victory looked certain as did a quick fire 100 for Perry, sadly with him on 95 Trigger Chicken somehow gave him LBW. From the pavilion it looked a reckless umpiring decision. But to Perry's credit he took the decision well. Doms 1-142 off 19.
Drinks taken with the score on 1-147. With Hodgy now in to haunt the Sportsman bowlers he took just five overs to knock off the 44 runs needed for a second 9 wk win over the Sportsman team this season. Hodgy ended not out on 39 and Davidge, solid and unmoved on 31 not out.
Hands were shaken and the match ended with an early trip to the bar.
Player of the Match - No doubt about this one, Perry 95 and 2-35. A great game for Tom
Dropped Catches - Brookes M -1 Brookes D-1 Davidge -1 (running total 33)
