Selly Oak CC 136-5 in 20 overs
|Match: Old Doms lost by 9 runs|
Well the Doms lost a match they should have easily won against possibly the weakest bowling attack the Doms batsmen will face. Skipper for the night Hodgy only had 8 players and had it not been for three young lads messing about on the outfield the Doms would have started the first 6 overs with only 5 players as three players had got stuck in traffic. This is the worst turn up for a Doms match that the Roving Reporter can recall, a really sad state of affairs.
Well Hodgy and the players tried to restrict the Oaks run charge, in fact Last bowled a first over maiden. The Oak openers got into their stride and punished any loose ball into the wide open spaces where absent Doms fielders should have been. After 10 overs the home side were 0-62 and didn't look in any trouble.
The first wicket went down when Martin flung out a hand at gully and took a superb catch off Hodgy. 1-87 in 14th over. Last then got two wickets in one over in his second spell, the first a blinding one handed catch by Dawson in cow corner followed two balls later by bowling the number 4 batsman for a duck. In the final over Sammy Moore took another good catch off Dawson and the Doms had restricted the home side to 136-5.
So 137 to win started with a shocker. Martin bowled the very first ball and with only 4 being added Hodgy played an awful shot and was out for 4. Doms 2-5 off 3.
Moore and Pickles moved the score onto 42 when both batsmen were out. Moore for 33 and Pickles 4. So after 10 overs the Doms were 4-51 needing another 86 off 60 balls. Con Adams came in and played three cracking shots for 4 runs before a ball stopped on him and the bowler took an easy catch. 5-78 off14. 59 needed off 36.
Dawson who couldn't hit the ball off the square taking 23 balls to get 11 runs suddenly got his eye in, the next 19 balls went for 41 but sadly ran out of balls and the Doms ended 10 runs short. A game of many "if only.....". Having the basic 11 players would have been a good .
