Fladbury CC 117-2 in 14 overs
|Match: Old Doms lost by 8 wks|
The Doms first visit to Fladbury, a nice looking ground to play cricket and best of all the sun was shining brightly. The Doms, have has been the norm this season struggled to get eleven players with squad members picking and choosing when they want to play, really disappointing when the fixture list has been out since February to enable them to plan around matches. Still only two matches left to play this season, perhaps some will want to get a last bat and bowl before putting their whites away for the winter.
Anyway to the match, the Doms had 10 players so Chickin was pressurised to play and we welcome new boy Ted White to the Doms team for his first match. Pedro lost the toss and the Doms would bat first on a well worn end of season track.
The Doms got off to a cracking start with 30 runs coming off the first 3 overs, sadly that was the best it got for the Doms as Collins was bowled for 2 in the 4th over and by the 11th over the Doms were staring down the barrel of a mauling with Brookes M 3, Piper 1, Dolly 2, White 0 and Chickin 19 at 52-6. All being bowled other that Dolly giving a simple catch.
A slight recovery between Pedro and Alex Rich before the latter became the 6th Dom to be bowled and the score was on 74-7. Dan Brookes made a 12 ball 2 runs score in his first innings of the season. Last joined Pedro for his 4th innings of the season and together put on 24 for the 9th wicket when Pedro was caught out by a ridiculously hard catch in the deep by Clayton.
Stew Rich and Last put on 12 before Last was adjudged LBW, only the umpire thought it was out. The comfort of the bowler apologising to Last for his 'silly' appeal did little to appease him as he trudged off. The Doms were all out for 116.
Tea was taken. Oh dear.....this must be one of the most frugal teas the Doms had ever experienced in 30 years... nicely presented but £40? oh dear oh really deary me.
With the Doms players "full" to the brim it was a case of reducing the size of the defeat. Last and Alex Rich bowled steadily against a very useful batsman obviously well above the standard normally faced on on Sunday afternoon friendly outing. Stokes was impressive and scored 96no of the 117 runs needed for a Fladbury victory by 8 wks in 14 overs. Sadly the Doms managed to drop 4 catches which might have made the score book more readable.
It was a good friendly match played in glorious weather although it was disappointing to loose so comprehensively.
