Dorridge CC 223 a/o in 39 overs
|Match: Old Doms lost by 17 runs|
What a good game after the poor show on Thursday. The visitors were new to the Doms as Frenchay couldn't muster 11 players. The sun was up and the pitch was looking in excellent order. The Doms lost the toss and skipper Pedro was asked to bowl first.
Srini and Pedro opened the bowling with Srini finding it hard to control the swing. Pedro was bowling a tight line and was rewarded when Hodgy took a good one handed low down catch and the Doms had their first wicket. Pedro was rested after 5 tight overs 1-12. Last took over bowling uphill and with some tight fielding also kept the runs in check. Last got his first of three wickets when the Dorridge batsmen tried to hit long and straight. But not long enough as Hodgy was placed in the right position.
The same pair combined to take the next wicket, long straight drive into Hodgy's hands. Last got a third wicket when Imran chipped to martin Brookes and the Doms were getting on top. At 20 overs the score was on 96-4.
Shoab was dropped twice before he was in double figures but went on to a good half century before Martin Brookes got an LBW decision. Pedders and Brookes bowled tight and cleaned up the tail with Pedders taking 2-32 and Brookes 3-42. The visitors ended on 223 a/o with one over unused.
The tea was ok, a new twist to the cheese sandwiches was tried and proved a success. Be prepared for wraps for a few weeks..
The Doms chase started steadily with the useful Dorridge bowlers bowling a tight line. Pedders and Davidge pushed the score onto 40 when a short ball to Pedders (17) got big and he spooned a hook for a simple catch. 1-40 off 10. The score was doubled in seven overs before Davidge had the best ball of the day and was bowled for 22. The Doms were still on course to chase down the 224 needed.
Sadly Hodgy who had raced to 49 holed out to long off and the Doms were tottering on 3-99 in 20th over. It was really left to Martin Brookes to get the team close to winning but sadly the middle order produced no real support and although a late 9th wicket flourish of 20 in three overs the Doms ran out of overs and ended up at 206-9 leaving then 17 runs short.
Brookes ended up 64 not out, a great knock that deserved better support. A really enjoyable match played in good sprit. Well done the Dorridge lads, a great bunch of cricketers and we hope to play them again in the future.
