TPR Titans CC 90-4 in 11.2 x 8 ball overs
|Match: Doms lost by 6 wks|
Well after the tour the Doms roll up to the final Thursday evening match of the season. Undefeated, could the Doms make a clean sweep. Only Kman and Last from the tour party turned out to play. Last stood in as skipper and had a useful looking squad with Matty Banham making an appearance. The pitch looked slow and as it turned out the visitors adapted much better than the classic stroke players in the Doms line up.
The toss won by the visitors who opted to bowl first in the unusual format of 12 eight ball overs. This was an attempt to beat the darkness. What would be a good score? Martin and Collins opened but with a tight line being bowled Martin was bowled for 1. In strides Banham on two ducks in a row hoping to get back in some form. Sadly, he needlessly stretched at a wide ball and popped the ball up for an easy catch. Banners out for a golden duck and his poor form continues. Doms 2-10 off 2.
DC with Burrows steadied the innings and put on 41 but in the 6th over Burrows tanked a ball which was surprisingly caught for 16. The pitch was slow and the stroke makers were unable to find the boundary, good bowling and field placing were not helping. Harry Dwyer came and went and with the score slowly edging up DC was caught for a diligent 32. Doms 5-70 off 10 overs.
Steve H and Greg J put on a useful 21 runs off the last 16 balls and the Doms innings ended on 89-5, about 20 runs short of a competitive total ..
So could the Doms defend 89. Well no was the answer. The TPR boys thrashed around in less than text book fashion but on such a slow wicket it was the right way to play, top edges and bottom edges found the boundary to often. Last mixed the bowling up and wickets were being taken. Banners 2-26 and Steve H 1-21 slowed the run rate down. 11 needed off the last 16 balls, the Doms were facing defeat. DC bowled the penultimate over for 6 leaving Greg Johnson to defend just 4 runs. With the fielders in the second ball was lofted to the boundary. The Doms had lost by 6wks.
A disappointing end to the Thursday night matches.
