|Match: Old Doms won by 89 runs|
With the sun shinning the Old Doms players turned up at a sun kissed Ash Lane. The Doms have produced some fairly average performances over the past few matches with the batting causing some concern and were hoping to put this right tonight. A strong looking side which even included Pedro.
The toss lost the Doms would bat first on a good looking batting strip. Martin and the Doms overseas player Banham opened the batting for the Doms. Sadly the 7th ball of the match saw Matty Banham play a number of shots at the third ball he faced only to see the ball trickle past his bat and was cleaned bowled. Awful shot selection, should have used the ' reverse scoop'. The Doms 1-7.
The score raced onto 30 as Martin and Hodgy slogged away and some rather dross bowling. Martin slogged and missed and the same dolly drop bowler whom had Banners bowled did the same for Martin. Shocking shot selection, Doms 2-30 off 4 overs. In strides Pedro, yes Pedro up and in at number 4. Well he faced 8 balls for his ten runs and was bowled off and inside edge. The shot selection and execution continues to baffle the purists amongst those watching. Doms 3-54 and throwing wickets away like confetti in the wind.
Some sensible shots now being executed by Hodgy and by cook come seamstress come PE teacher Brookes steadied the ship, well steady the ship for a brief moment until Hodgy swiped aimlessly at a ball and was cleaned bowled. "the ball never got up" was Hodgy's response to seeing his wickets scattered.. another batsman who could do with some nets.
4 players bowled facing '6 or 4 hit' bowling and the Doms were 4-70. Nothing much improved as Chickin was another victim of his own inability to hit the fcking ball out of the ground ! Doms 5-88 off 12 and Rich tamely gives an easy C&B. Doms 6-103 off 13.
Well it was left to Greg Johnson and Brookes to clatter the ball around as the other failed Doms batsmen looked on in awe. Johnson stumped for 36 off the final ball and Brookes undefeated on 38. Somehow the Doms had managed to record 164 runs in their 20 overs. A great 61 run partnership off nearly 7 overs for the 7th wicket.
The Doms now needed to defend 164 and with the bowling options available to Chickin it was always going to be a difficult run chase for the hosts.
Rich and Dan Brookes opened and in Riche's second over he bowled Robinson off a good length ball, well a full toss to be precise. SO 1-9. Hazeldon and Last first change bowlers came on and Hazeldon's first three balls produced wickets, a stumping and a catch for Chicken followed by the hat trick ball bowling the hapless Davenport. SO now tottering on 4-20 off7 overs. The eight over saw Last picking up the next wicket with flight and bounce and a sharp catch by Chicken. 5-33.
Other than Hamiltons lone effort of 47 the rest of the batting was not up to the bowling of the Doms. Hodgson and Dan Brookes picking the tail enders as the hosts capitulated and ended 89 runs short being 75 all out.
An easy runout for the Doms in the evening sun. The batters however have much work to do.
Man of the Match: Steve Hazeldon for a great hat trick finishing 4-11 off 4 overs.
Dropped Catches: None ! Running total: 41
