Westheathians CC 118a/o in 31.2 overs
|Match: Old Doms won by 62 runs|
With Dingle CC calling off the fixture Pedro scouted around for some opposition. Our old chums the Westies were free so it was the Westies again. Last time we played the Doms were fielding a much weakened side but only lost by 32 runs. The Doms had a rather different 11 out today, a very strong side who hoped to reverse the recent defeat. Pedro lost the toss and the Doms were put into bat. It was however something that Pedro would have done in any case as he eyed a big 280 plus score.
Well things didn't quite turn out as expected as the Doms struggled to 180 all out. Some awful batting much akin to the Steve Morris strokes we are all accustomed to. Chickin going to the second ball of the day, full toss tamely lobbed back to the thankful bowler. But hen a 96 run partnership in 17 overs between Hodgy and Perry put the Doms back on course for 280 plus.
But the wheel falls off spectacularly. From 1-96 to 9-148 in the space of 13 dreadful overs. Hodgson, sloppy shot to mid off out for 57. Perry bowled for 29. Haywood and Dolly, stemmed the tide for a brief period putting on 30 before Matty Haywood skied a ball and went for 24. 4-127 in 23 overs. The rest were blown away by some average bowling. Only Pedro and Last played with any gumption and put on 32 for the last wicket and the Doms were all out for 180. Dismal performance. Shocking.
Tea. Yep another good Doms tea, Srini some great spicy stuff and Mrs Hodgy performing well with the cakes.
So on a good wicket the Doms were going to be tested in defending 180.
Srini comes up trumps with the second ball of the innings, clean bowling O'Donnel for a duck. No one is sure why but he seemed to take umbrage at Srinis celebration who was rightly pleased with a cracking delivery. Westies 1-0 . Srini and Pedro continued to put a hold on the Westies innings and by the time Srini and Pedro were rested the Westies run chase was in deep trouble at 4-38 off 12 overs. Pedro bowling very well taking 3 wickets in his spell aided by a cracking take by Haywood.
Hodgy down hill replaced Srini and Perry up the slope. Hodgy struck inn the 15th over, another good catch behind the stumps by Matty Haywood. Perry chips in with a Haywood stumping to send the Westies into a spiral of decline at 6-44 off 16. Perry went lame in his 6th over not to be seen again with 12th man Will Anstey called on to bolster the fielding.
Hodgy picked up his usual lower order wickets to finish off a great spell 4-25. With Last picking up the 10th wicket with a sharp slip catch taken by stand in keeper Chickin. The Doms had romped home by 62 runs in the 31st over. A good bowling and fielding effort from the Doms and a much deserved victory despite an horrendous batting collapse.
Everyone departed to the club house for a beer or two to consider how Hodgy's bowling Index continued to prove his worth as a tail end Charlie wicket taker.
Man of the Match: Hodgy for a top score 57 and 4-25
Dropped Catches: Hodgson-1 Chickin-1 Running total: 33
