The sun was still out and players were actually playing cricket in just shirts sleeves.. well its the Doms first mid week slog, Hutch and Greg Johnson making their Doms debuts. Chickin was given another chance of captaining the side after the debacle of his last match in charge. The Doms won the toss and decided to bowl on a very good looking track. Johnson, bowling down the hill for his first bowl for nearly 50 years. Bowling at a brisk pace he was looking good until he dropped one short that was pulled for a boundary. But non the less he looked a useful bowler.
Last, uphill started the Westies decline by bowling Stock middle and leg, bails flying everywhere. Westies 1-11 off two. Johnson picked up his first Doms wicket when Hutch took a blinder at point. Dan Brookes replaced Last after a two over spell and soon realised his dad fielding at mid off was in teacher mode which roughly translates to letting balls going through your legs for four runs. He did get the good wicket of Heath, bowled. Westies 3-37 off 7.
Johnson finished his four overs with a respectable 1-25, this allowed Hodgy to come into the attack, downhill balls all over the place. Hodgey was unplayable and his spell cost a miserly 2-6. The Westies were struggling on a wicket of bounce and pace. Young Dan Brookes finished with a top class return of 3-17, could have been more if his dad hadn't spilled a catch - teacher cures?
When Pedders and Last were paired up the tail was blown away, Pedders 2-9 and Last 2-7. The Doms had produced a good performance with the ball and generally the fielding was good.
So the Doms were chasing a very modest 67 to win. Steve Martin, two balls and out, a rusty rustic shot... Doms 1-5 off one. Hodgy joined Hutch and the runs flowed and flowed. No matter what the Westies did there was no stopping a Doms win. All that was in question was how fast the win would come.
In the 8th over Hodgy decided he needed a beer and Barns over went 444440. why Hodgy didn't blast the sixth ball for a 4 was a mystery.. playing every ball as they come I suppose.
Hutch was out for 17 with only 5 needed and it was left to Hodgy to get the Doms home with 10 overs to spare. A surprisingly easy romp for this new look Doms team.
The teams went for an early visit to the bar.. where Skipper Chickin sat proudly savouring a good win.
Man of the Match: Hodgy edged it over young Dan Brookes by a whisker.
Dropped Catches: 3 Brookes M-1 Burrell-1 Hickin J-1 Running total: 8
