With so many players on the Doms books it was sad that the Doms could only muster 9 players, one of those being WJ Anstey aged 8 and a bit who played his first full game for the Doms. It was Old Moseley Arms at the flat track at Ashfields. Very sunny hot day, great day for cricket but where were the players? Watching tennis maybe or waiting for the easy matches?
Well it was to be another game of two half's. Pedro winning the toss and electing to field. And field the team did, with a great keeness. A very short car park boundary and limited numbers of fielders the Doms did a top 40 overs of fielding, diving and chasing balls down. The outfield was surprisingly unpredictable and caused some amusement when the long barrier was beaten.
Pedro and Rich opened... Rich particularly frugal and Pedro finding the short boundary annoying as he conceded 4's. At the 20 over mark the Doms were still in control as the Mose reached 109-1 with Hodgson picking up the first wicket. Picture the scene, debutant WJ approaches the skipper "will be getting a bowl today ?" that's what we like keen players.. The outfield was very fast and the Doms to a man did sterling work. WJ Anstey patrolling all of the deep boundary saving many a boundary.
Hodgy picked up another 2 wickets and Last bowled the number 4 batsman to improve his Index. The Mosley boys had amassed 246-4, given the batting track and small boundary the Doms were confident of overtaking the total
Tea was taken and by the time Murray was on his way to whatever he was on his way to the Doms were batting.
Davidge and Chickin opened and started the chase well but sadly in the 3 over with the score on 34 Chickin again was out cheaply, driving to mid off for 9. Hodgy came in and the score board rattled along. But in the 9th over with 81 on the board Hodgy went 6 4 4 out, shite ball but well caught on the boundary.
It was yet another familiar Doms weak batting performance, players getting a start and not turning it into a big score. Davidge out stumped for 35 and Pedro bowled for a lusty 38 leaving WJ Anstey marooned on 8 not out. The Doms all out for 181, 65 short but still 16overs left to bat.
A disappointing batting display when the game was there to take. Hopefully people will come out of the woodwork and ensure the Doms can field 11 players.
Man of the Match: Some good fielding but the MoM goes to WJ Anstey
Dropped Catches: Brookes M -2 Rich-1 Running total: 41
