Moseley Arms CC 128--8 in 20 overs
|Match: Old Doms won by 5wks|
Nice sunny evening to play a 20/20 slogathon. Old Moseley Arms were the visitors who where hoping to be the first team to beat the Doms at 20/20 this season. Chickin looking to extend his captaincy winning run.
The Doms had a well balanced side, three leg spinners and the speed boys of Greg J and Hickers. The Doms won the toss and decided to bowl first. Greg Johnson bowling with pace down the hill soon found that any short ball would race to the boundary, three fours off his first six balls underlined the point. 14 off the first over. Last uphill soon adjusted his length and the second over conceded on 2 runs.
Greg J had a better second over, pitching up and conceding only 5 runs. The fourth over produced 2 wickets. DC snaffled up Harris and two balls later Brice played early and lobbed a catch to Hazeldon at mid off. Old Mose 2-23 off 4. With Greg J rested skipper Chickin decided spin was in and was rewarded by Hazeldon when DC catch Butcher for 0. Mose now 3-13. The Old Mose were in deep trouble when in Last's third over a tragically placed Chickin snaffled the wicket of Richy Winstanley for 2. Old Mose teetering at 4-25 off 6.
Last bowled out 3-11 picking up 6 Bowling Index points much to the disbelief of a watching Hodgy. I'm sure Hodgy will have learnt a lot about bowling the better batsmen out from watching Lasts 4 over spell.
Steve H continued to cause the visitors problem and finished with 1-12 off his four overs. Sam Johnson now on and the batsmen started to hit out. Balls going everywhere and with a bit more luck Sammy would have picked up wickets. Tom Smith provided another slow leg break option and bowled well as the visitors were trying to accelerate to a defendable score. In his third over he bowled Huxley for 21. Hickers brought on up hill bowled a devastating single over which was to good for the batsmen as he clean bowled Winstanly P .
A good all round team performance for the first half. No silly errors in the field and some good restrictive bowling.
So the Doms would be chasing 129 to win. DC and Pickles to open..
Four steady overs and 19 on the board when the Doms started to stutter in their run chase. Pickles (1) and Brooks (0) perished cheaply, Brooks to one of those 'Ive middled that bugger' only to see it go straight down the throat of a fielder ! Doms 2-26 in 7th over. 8 an over needed.
Hickers joins DC who was unnerved by the fall of wickets and the slow run rate. Hickers blasted a 17 ball 21 runs before being stumped going for a big cover drive, Doms 3-60 a four over partnership between DC and Hickers of 40 had pulled the game around about even. Kman knocked a brief 4 runs before being LBW. So the Doms again stuttering at 5-65 off 12. 8 an over was the rate required.
Steve Hazeldon joined DC and the Doms never looked in any more trouble. Steve giving the strike to DC when ever he could and DC hitting the ball hard. The Old Moses heads dropped and dropped as it became clear with every run that the Doms were going to chase down 128. Two overs to go, 9 to win. DC facing 4 4 4 off the first three balls of the 19th over sealed the game. Dc a magnificent 81 not out, his top score for the Doms and Steve H a well controlled supporting knock of 15. The Doms were home and dusted. Another win for Skipper Chickin.
