Old Griffs CC 109-9 in 20 overs
|Match: Old Doms won by 3 wks|
Hey another great win for the Doms, but a tight old game this one turned out to be. The Doms skippered by Tank won the toss and decided to bowl first in this 20 over slog.
The Griffs fielding a strongish eleven were soon in trouble as Last gets the batsman to drive straight to Adie at mid off. After a loose over costing 10 runs from Hickman coming down the hill he got into his stride and the next 3 overs went for only a further 3 runs. He bowled out 0-13, Last bowled out with a tidy 1-15 although Collins spilled a sitter in his third over. After the opening 8 overs the Griffs were two down for 32 following a brilliant direct hit from Hickman to run the opene out.
Adie and Perry bowled the mid overs and continued to stifle the runs. Catches went down which allowed the Griffs off the hook. Adie finishing on 1-25, Collins bowled a miserly three overs picking up two wickets 2-21. But the star bowler was Perry 0-23 off his first three overs turned to 3-25 as he took a hat rick with the last three balls of the Griffs innings. The hat trick ball was a cracker of a catch taken by Collins. Great piece of cricket. The Doms fielded well albeit three dropped catches, sadly screaming by the batsman when the fielder is trying to catch the ball is poor form. So the Doms would be chasing 110 to win.
Martin got the innings off to a flyer hitting a four and a big six in the first over but with the first ball of the second over Dolly back from guard duty was out first ball 1 awful shot. Doms 1-10 Russell soon followed out for a quick 10 then Martin for 14 and the Doms were struggling. 3-29 soon became 4-29 as Boynton was bowled first ball. The Griffs sensed a victory.
Chickin and Brookes steadied the Doms with some sensible batting but with the score on 48 Chickin went soon followed by Brookes out for 18. The Doms up to their necks in shxte at 6-56 and overs running away. But Collins was getting into his stride playing sensible shots and Perry bladdering the ball around.
It was getting very tight, overs were dripping away but the penultimate over was a good one leaving the Doms needing to get 2 tow in off six balls. 0 W Perry given out LBW by Trigger Dolly. 2 off 4 balls. Adie facing, 0 for the 4th ball. A bye brought the scores level. Collins, with the filed surrounding the bat needing a single to win. Bowler races up, Collins drives the ball races to the boundary for 4. The Doms home by 3 wks.
Great match, tight finish but the Doms the deserving winners.
