Match: Old Doms lost by 58 runs | |||||||||||||||||
Not a match to remember. Doms let the visitors off the hook and then get stuffed in the dark. That about sums up the game. The Doms were at home hosting Edgbaston Unity, a nice bunch of lads but far to much time wasting and quibbling over decisions. The visitors chose to bat, and by the time the first ball was bowled by Alex Rich it was already running 9 minutes late. This match had a 'must start at 1:30 at the latest label on it and as it turned out when the Doms were batting the Scorers were using phones to light up the score book.
The first wicket went down in in the 4th over when Steve H held a good catch off Pedro with the score on 15. But then Williams and Greaves set about the bowling using the pace to score freely. When Pedro and Rich were taken off the score had raced onto 56-1 off 8 overs. Pace off the ball was the answer and Banham and Last were given the task of dragging the run rate back and that they did, their 12 over spell when for 44.
Last rested after 5 and Colin Hunt was on. Although Colin bowled a useful first 4 overs his 5th went for 15 and he was taken off. Steve H and Dolly were on but neither could find a consistent line and length and took a bit of a thumping.
Williams went onto an unbeaten 119 and the visitors ended on 247-5. It was a calamitous 40 overs by the Doms, 6 dropped catches, Williams was dropped three times and some sloppy fielding. If the Doms and performed and took their opportunities a chase of around 150 would have been about right.
Tea was taken, another casual affair no rush to get the match restarted.
So a massive 248 to win with the sun falling behind the trees. Chickin and Davidge opened and looked very comfortable and were on top when the first wicket went down in the 8th over. Chickin caught for 13 and the score was 49-1 off 8. Banners in, his form lower than a knats testicles he was out to most stupid catch for 7. His form is rock bottom. Doms 68-2 off 12.
Mike Davidge kept his usual strong defence whilst Dolly after a edgy start took on the run getter role. Last who was umpiring decided enough was enough when for the umpteenth players from all parts of the ground questioned his No Balling of Greaves. Greaves to his credit had no problems with the calls. The score had moved onto 139 when Dolly was bowled for a good 42. the Doms 3-143 off 26. Still up with the run rate but the darkness was closing in.
When Davidge was out after a watchful 58 the score was 160-7 off 35. The match was concluded in farcical light when the last Doms wicket went down with the score on 189. A defeat that was hard to take given we had beaten the visitors by 10wks earlier in the season. Catches win matches, 6 drops and some tame fielding.
Man of Match: Davidge, another good knock.
Drops: 6. S Collins -2, Dolly -1 Chickin -1 C Hunt-1 Steve H-1 Running Total 65
